Literature Circles

November 6, 2011

We’ve finished our literature circles, and I am curious to see what your thoughts are about them.  Listening to you guys discuss your novels is exciting to me, as a teacher.  When I was in school, I would of loved to have the opportunity to speak with my peers without the teacher intervening.  (Not that it is bad for the teacher to put in their input.)  Now, be honest.  I would appreciate your input to see how literature circles could be made better.   READ ON!

Save our Language

September 22, 2011

With a beginning of a new school year, I always review the guidelines of my blog.  The main one is to use correct grammar and punctuation when posting a comment.  I jest with my students that our language is slowly dying with all of our technology. When I said this, a couple of my students started to chant, “Save our language, save our language.”  We laughed about it, but started to discuss how it is true.  It is rare to write anyone where we don’t use slang, abbreviations, and sometimes a completely new language. (I have a hard time keeping up with the lingo, and I’m not even that old.)  Please join my classes and me as we try to save our language one word at a time!

Hello world!

August 17, 2009

Welcome to 6th grade!

I am excited about blogging this year.  This is a new and useful way to communicate with other people about your thoughts and see the thoughts of other students.  This is a place where parents and family members can also post comments.  There are a few rules and guidelines that will govern our blog.  First, remember that I will approve all comments before they make it to the World Wide Web.  Please, consider the following as you blog:

Make sure your comment:

  • is something you would want everyone to see
  • is respectful
  • shows that you have thought and read about the post
  • uses appropriate language and proper grammar and spelling

Comments that are published on our blog might:

  • give new information
  • give and support your opinion
  • ask questions
  • cause people to continue the conversation

Have a great year and let the blogging begin!
